Construction to begin at Clear Lake Med Center

WEBSTER — Hospital officials this week will break ground on a $92 million expansion at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster that will include the construction of a 154,470-square-foot hospital tower. Groundbreaking ceremonies are planned for Thursday at the hospital’s main campus, 500 Medical Center Blvd. in Webster.

Officials said this is the first major expansion of the hospital since the construction of a $55 million heart and vascular hospital was completed in 2007.

The new tower planned for Clear Lake Regional will feature large pre-operating rooms for patients and their families preparing for surgery, new operating suites and recovery rooms. The tower also will have a new 30-bed adult intensive care unit.

The construction will also include renovations to Clear Lake Regional’s Women’s and Children’s Center. That 79,940 square foot renovation will include new cesarean section medical suites, an expanded nursery and remodeled patient rooms.

The medical center delivers more than 4,000 babies annually, hospital officials said.

Stephen K. Jones Jr., CEO of Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, said: “Our top priority is to provide accessible, unparalleled health care services to our region, from a superior medical staff and an outstanding team of employees. The enhancements we are planning allow us to continue that mission.

“For example, we know patients want and deserve privacy while they are here. Private rooms will allow us to continue fostering the dignity and respect of those we serve.”

Clear Lake Regional operates two hospital campuses in the region. The other is Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

Construction on the new tower and the renovated women and children’s center is expected to be complete by spring 2013, officials said.
