Bedlam Wrestling Hits Stillwater Sunday
NORMAN, Okla . -- Bedlam wrestling hits Stillwater, Okla., this Sunday, Dec. 11, when the 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma squad challenges second-ranked Oklahoma State inside Gallagher-Iba Arena at 2 p.m.
The top 12 matchup marks the first meeting between the Big 12 foes this season. Oklahoma (3-0, 2-0) will attempt to top the Cowboys (2-0, 1-0) in Stillwater for the first time since Nov. 28, 1995, and snap a three match losing skid.
First year head coach Mark Cody returns to a familiar place in Stillwater where he served as an assistant coach from 1986-87 and 2000-02 under current OSU head man John Smith.
“I’m really looking forward to this dual,” head coach Mark Cody said. “I have been a part of it three times, but of course during those I was coaching at Oklahoma State. I remember the intensity of this dual meet and I know there is a lot on the line. This will be a good opportunity for our team to see where we are and what areas we need to improve on.”
The Sooners are 2-4-1 against the Cowboys in the past seven meetings, with OSU leading the all-time series 26-128-9. OU is coming off a pair of Big 12 wins as the Sooners earned a 22-13 victory in Ames, Iowa, on Nov. 27. Prior to that, OU defeated then-No. 9 Missouri, 19-18, in Norman.
The rivalry will air to the state of Oklahoma on Cox Television with Chad McKee calling and Lee Roy Smith adding commentary on Cox Channel 3 (Standard Definition) and 703 (HD) in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The dual will also air on Metro Sports in Kansas City and Fox College Sports.
Six Sooners are ranked by InterMat, headlined by returning All-American Jarrod Patterson , ranked No. 4 at 125 pounds. Kendric Maple , a 2009-10 NCAA qualifier that redshirted last year, is ranked No. 8 at 141 pounds. Four Sooners are ranked outside the top 10 in their respective weight classes.
