'Twain' show has literary, musical roots
The Theatre at the Center in Munster will offer a post-holiday treat with “Mark Twain and the Laughing River” opening on Dec. 27.
Actor and musician Jim Post will take audiences on a journey through the quintessential American author’s life using Twain’s wit and wisdom.
With words and music, the show reveals how the Mississippi River was the writer’s inspiration for his “devilish” temperament and how Hannibal, Mo., influenced his life and stories.
The Smithsonian Institute said, “Post’s depiction of Mark Twain is nothing less than brilliant, and each sentence and song is a gem. This is a show that should be on Broadway.”
Post was a prominent part of the Chicago folk music scene along with Steve Goodman, John Prine and Bonnie Koloc. He has recorded 27 albums of mostly original material.
“Mark Twain and the Laughing River” runs Dec. 27-31 at Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Call 836-3255 for reservations.
