Drive-in theater delivers a blast from the past
Look how they should be on the big screen, not to own and operate one of the last remaining drive in theaters in the Houston area."It's a dream come true," said Johnny Rumfolo.
The Showboat Drive-In is a blast from the past. It has two screens, gravel for parking, the playground opposite the big screen.
Video games inside the snack bar-style 1950's, giving young people a place to stay cool, and occupied before the movie starts.
Mighty Ninety
While this is sufficient to start a conversation, nothing ever starts as the 1942 vintage Mighty Ninety projector staged in the middle of the snack back.
"I have older couples come here and they immediately know what a Mighty Ninety" Johnny said.
While some couples come for the nostalgia, others come for a comfortable night and cheap, and even special occasions.
"We had some commitments," said Johnny.
They also have youth occasional sneak into the theater in the trunk of someone.Johnny said that about 95 percent of the time, he sees that happening, but sometimes he looks the other way.
"What can you do," he said, smiling.
Happy worker
Kyle Schliesser, 19, who worked at the Showboat Drive-In for two years, said he loves his job and would do nothing else.
"I like this place because people who come here, he said," and the people I work with. "
Schliesser, who lives in Magnolia, started in 2009 as a bit of a Overseers, he was closely monitored on anything and everything that may or may not occur in the parking lot.
"Above all, it was a lot of walking, picking up trash and make sure nothing was happening," he said. "Nothing ever happened."
Take a chance
The year Rumfolo took a chance in 2006 when they bought the property along FM 2920 in Hockley and made their decision to build the drive-in.
Johnny, who was an electrician, did a lot of soul searching with Chris before they decided to live the dream.

Life with the Depews: Showboat Drive-In Movie Theater
There is indeed a drive-in not too terribly far from us that we spent a couple of times leaving and coming back to town. I briefly looked at their site and noticed there were several good movies that I particularly wanted to see Green Lantern and X-Men and had double headers each night for a mere $ 5 per person. I book marked the site and quickly forgotten everything since the current round 100 degrees. However, when the rain came around with my threats to wash my car and my car read 82 degrees to 18 hours fresh idea immediately jumped into mind that it would be a perfect time to go to the Drive-In. Checking their site I noticed they had a Kung-Fu Panda 2 and X-Men First Class combination. Talk pefect. We could take the boys and all-day Kung Fu Panda. And when it was over, we could put the boys to bed in the car, then Kevin and I could watch X-Men.Just one of the benefits of the children are always flexible, which can sleep anywhere We picked up our bath popcorn and headed to our car. When we got there, the boys were running on the playground with a dozen other children waiting for the sun to set and the film begins we all located in the back. Ryan looked up at one point and we have pointed out how pretty the colors of the sunset was. He helped me take a picture of him on my cell phone. Before long, Kevin, we made the mistake of leaving went to bed, got comfortable and was asleep. We had to wake him several times that his snoring got too loud. The boys really enjoyed sitting with us and watch the movie. They came all the way to the end despite the fact that it was beyond their bedtime.
