Columbia College wins St. Xavier Tournament
The Columbia College men’s basketball team won the St. Xavier Midwest Tournament with a 72-62 victory over St. Ambrose yesterday in Chicago.
Henrique Medeiros led the Cougars (11-4) with 19 points and five assists. Taylor Evans scored 12, Wendell Crowder had 11 and Jordan Dressler added 10.
Columbia opened a 40-31 halftime lead thanks to 61 percent shooting in the first half. The Bees (9-6) briefly took the lead midway through the second half before the Cougars regained control and put the game away by making 11 of their last 12 free throws.
The Columbia College men’s and women’s teams will participate in the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic next weekend at the Southwell Complex.
